I think what can be agreed across the board though is:
Try to eat a variety of good quality foods
To have as few processed foods as possible
Reduce the sugar
Knowing the changes we may need to make is one thing, doing it is something else!
We all live busy lives and cooking and preparing meals can be time consuming ![]()
This is something that’s really important to me but I have 3 children and run my own business and still struggle with this myself!
Some things that have helped me are:
Looking ahead to my week and what’s going on – who needs to be where and when and how much time do I, (or someone else!) have that day for cooking
On the days i have more time, I batch cook and have the leftovers for the day when there’s not much time
Cooking at a different time of day – if i have very little time around dinner time to cook but i have some time in the afternoon, i’ll do some peeling/chopping/cooking then instead so when it comes to tea time, i just chuck it all together and switch on the pan/oven (or leave instructions for someone else to!)
Sometimes it means chopping onions at 6am! ![]()
Attitude change – The biggest change I’ve made recently is to my attitude. I found that I was really resenting cooking, “I don’t have time for this.” ![]()
But I realised that eating healthily is very important to me and my family (well them eating healthily is important to me, whether it is for them or not!) and therefore I need to prioritise and think this IS a valuable way to spend my time .
Realising that I can’t do it all.
It’s not possible for me to shop organically, ethically and fresh from the high street every day or to grow all my veggies
– and I suspect it’s the same for a lot of us! Choose 1 or 2 things that is the most important to you, feel good about that and don’t beat yourself up about what you can’t do
!
What tips do you have when it comes to preparing and cooking meals?
What do you struggle with?
