Reviewing Clients-Lisa

“My biggest achievement is getting down on the floor and back up again; I’m not worried about it anymore”

I’ve being doing reviews with my clients at the moment. This is a chance to connect 1-1 every 3 months and I ask them 3 main questions:

1. What is your proudest achievement in your training so far?

2. What is your current priority right now to improve your health and fitness?

3. What would you like to achieve in the next 3/6/12 months?

It doesn’t need to be ‘run a marathon’ or ‘deadlift 100kg’ in fact, you’re probably in the wrong place if those are your goals!

Lisa joined my programme over a year ago now and we recently had a review. I was thinking she might say how pleased she is with the progress she’s making in lifting heavier in her squats. Or how long she can now plank for. Or the fact she now walks everywhere.

But the first thing she said that she was MOST pleased with was “getting on the floor and up again!!”

How Lisa went from

 avoiding getting down and up from the floor ;

 nervous about walking any distance due to pain ;

 constantly yo-yo exercising

To:

 doing daily planks at home

 confidently walking long distances

 not dreading her session and looking forward to exercise!!

Lisa suffers from osteoarthritis in her knees as well as Plantar fasciitis flare ups .

This really affected her motivation to exercise and to know what exercise she should be doing .

She would get lost in a bigger class as there were so many things she couldn’t do .

She was always trying different exercises classes but would never last more than a month.

Her pain was getting worse which led to less movement; less confidence and more pain and frustration.

She was otherwise an active Grandmother who had grandchildren responsibilities that she very much wanted to continue!

She knew she HAD to do SOMETHING before she lost more mobility. She knew it was only downhill from here!

Lisa is a retired nurse with a part time cleaning job; mother to 3 dogs and a Grandmother.

She has much less knee pain now; she says that squats have actually helped her knees!

She can get down and up again from the floor and no longer fears it.

She knows now what she’s capable of and what she needs to practice at home.

She’s confident in her small group and challenges herself.

She walks 30 mins to her session (and that’s 30 min back too!) knowing that she doesn’t have to worry about pain – and actually she’s turning up earlier and earlier as she’s getting faster!

She’s so much happier!

She revealed recently that at first she used to dread the session. She’d have to force herself out the door. Now she actively looks forward to her small group session and has never stuck to anything this long before!!

Amazing Lisa, love it.
