I’ve shared a few times about my own struggle with back pain

Something that I’ve had on and off over the years since my teenage years where I remember when it was really bad, having to need my mum to help me in and out of the bath and car!

At 15yrs old, this was not cool!

Then during my pregnancies, 🤰 particularly my first 2 (when I was in my twenties) I really suffered with back pain and found it very difficult to sleep 😴

It was when I started getting migraines that I started to seek help from a Chiropractor 👩‍⚕️ .

Since then, about 10 years ago now, was when I started to really focus on getting fitter and healthier 🏃‍♀️🍏.

I still do get back pain, very rarely a migraine and when I have, it’s not sent me to bed like it used to 😣.

I hurt it again earlier this year (the very first day of my marathon training!!) so I do avoid some movements or have to take it light. As well as modify.

As I often say to my clients; ‘there’s always something you can do!’

I think for me, I’m realising there’s a huge emotional and mental connection to my back pain – if I’m stressed or overwhelmed 🤯, it seems to be the place it goes to ➡️

(I think perhaps the subject of physical pain being linked to emotional and mental health might be another post altogether!!) 😎🤪

What I’ve found helpful recently in getting back to it is:

👉Having a coach who I know is looking out for me;

👉Not thinking ‘I can’t do that’ – knowing that not moving will definitely make things worse;

👉Accepting that looking after myself is important; for the now and for laying down foundations for the future;

👉The more I do, the more confidence it gives me and then ultimately more strength!

How have you managed or recovered from back pain?
