Chances are, you’ve suffered with back / neck pain at some point in your life.
Sometimes it’s some stiffness from sitting down too long.
Other times it can be very debilitating – there’s been times in my life, and very recently actually where sitting up from a chair has been impossible without assistance.
For others it can interrupt sleep and prevent us from doing our normal everyday activities.
Which is actually quite serious.
However, most of the time, we recover.
And most of the time, according to the NHS, it’s not due to long term serious damage.
I recently went to a very helpful workshop by Claire Callahan physiotherapist and found it very reassuring – I can fully recommend Claire if this is something you’re struggling with.
We talked about what some of our go-to coping mechanisms were and as well as the importance of movement breaks.
When we’re in pain it feels scary.
There are some general good tips for preventing back pain as well as some useful things to do when you are in pain- i’ll be sharing these soon.
I’d always recommend seeing a professional, a physiotherapist or a chiropractor – knowledge of what’s going on (or knowing what isn’t going on!) is definitely the first step.
