I realise I’m an active coach potato.

I came accross this term again recently and realised that this actually describes me quite well at the moment!

It was something I heard in a BBC podcast with the Van Tullekans. It means someone who exercises frequently but not very active on a daily basis.

At the moment:

✅ I cycle 25-30 mins 4-5 times per week (including a horrible big hill!)

✅ I run roughly 10-15 km per week

✅ I swim once per week

✅ I strength train 2 times per week.

But I rarely do more than 2-3,000 steps per day!!

And I sit down a lot.

Yes part of my job is being on my feet but most of my work is actually sitting on my bum.

When I was on holiday at the beginning of the summer, I regularly walked about 10,000 steps per day (yes some of this was walks to the pasty shop and back!)

But not only did it help manage my weight despite the icecreams, pasties and cream teas (!) and the lack of running and cycling, I felt much better.

My back and neck and shoulders were looser.

And I just really enjoyed walking!

Obviously the views, sea air and sunny weather helped ☀️

So over July and August, I forced myself out the house every morning, just for a 10 mins walk round the block as soon as I got up. It was beautiful to see the sunrise and hear the birds and just move my body before sitting down at the desk.

However, September routines hit and it got dark and I’m back to very few steps every day and my lower back is just giving me little reminders now and then to get off my bum more!

So I’m trying to get back to it and create little pockets where I will get up and walk round the block, whether it’s at home or at work.

And just move more!
